“The money is in the list” is a common phrase in the Network Marketing world.  We hear it all the time but what you don’t hear is that while it can be easy to build a list, it is not easy to sell to the people on it if you don’t create a relationship with them first.

Getting people to know, like and trust you should be your main goal in the MLM industry.  When you do that, everything else falls into place.  You’ll make sales, sign new reps and become a leader in your company.  But it all starts with a relationship between you and the people you have on your MLM list.

Your Network Marketing business plan should be…

• Build a list.
• Build a relationship with the people on that list.
• Market products and services that will help the people on your list.

Take the time to treat the people on your list like gold because that is what they are!  They will be the reason your kid goes to college and you have a new car in your driveway every couple years.  They are the backbone for the financial part of your business and need to be treated as such.

Here are some simple rules to follow when it comes to your MLM list:

Never spam your list with worthless messages, instead give them helpful content on a product or service that you recommend that gets them closer to achieving their goals.

Never lie to your list. Always be truthful and only recommend products that you have personally tested and trust.  The easiest way to lose a list member is to send them to purchase a worthless product.

Always remember their needs first. When you are considering promoting a product or service think about if it actually helps your list members.  What is their biggest concern, want or challenge?

When you help enough people on your list get what they need and you will never have any issue getting what you need.  Your MLM list is where the money is so guard it and nurture it like it was your prize investment or stock option.

Everyone using copywriting to market an MLM business online wants the magic bullet, the secret that will change their business.  While MLM copywriting is not an easy skill to master there are a couple of tricks that will move your business further and they can be mastered in one simple step.

First you have to consider how the internet has altered our lives.  It has changed the way we interact with one another, how we learn, how we shop and how we live.  It entertains us, educates us and keeps us in touch even from the other side of the world.  Because the web has such a strong influence on everything we do it is important for online MLM marketers to understand how we use it compared to the old school copywriting methods of getting our message across.

People often do not read when they are online.  They scan.

The eye searches out keywords or phrases and then we read around those.  If what we read is important enough or is what we were looking for, we’ll go back and read the entire message, or at least most of it.

This scanning trait makes the written word get lost in the shuffle.  So, how do you get your message to stand out in the crowd?

Simple, use images.

A picture tells a 1000 words and online it may be worth even more.  If used properly a good eye catching, controversial, funny, interesting photo or illustration grabs the reader and pulls them in.

It is a simple trick that a lot of online marketers miss.  Pictures are the fastest way to get a persons attention and keep it.

If you take a look at the stats for the top websites you will notice an alarming trend.  The sites that get the most views, have the most people on them for the longest periods of time all center around videos and images.  It comes back to the fact that people don’t read on the internet but always take time to look at pictures or watch video.

Find good images and use them in as many of your marketing efforts as possible.

Blog posts, videos, forum posts (screen shots are brilliant for this), social networking profiles and anywhere else you can think of.

If a picture can tell a 1000 words and it gets seen on your social networking profile page 10 times a day that is 10 000 words spoken for you without you having to life a finger!  Use images in your MLM copywriting efforts and you will see a change in your MLM business.

Parents teach kids from an early age to always tell the truth but have them join a Network Marketing business, put a mouse in their hand and a computer in front of them and that lesson goes right out the window.

Being honest is one of the biggest issues in the online marketing industry.  Check out any forum or social networking site out there, they are full of lies!

I don’t think people don’t mean to be giant fibbers but they are mislead into believing that is the only way to get results in this industry.

Yes, you need to be a leader and yes, you need to show results to get results but they really do need to be proven.

If you are new to the industry or a business and don’t have your own results to show then be honest.  Let the world know that you don’t have all the answers but what you do know is this…  and talk about what you do know a lot about.

Another great way to show proof when you are new is to use someone else’s results.

Get to know someone who has success with whatever you are promoting and use their story.  Record an interview with them as a video or audio and add it to your website, blog or capture page.  Those interviews are a perfect giveaway for lead capture opt ins.

Give it a compelling title like…

“The 3 Secrets You Need to Know to Use XYZ Software to Get 60 Leads A Day”.

You look like a leader, you are able to promote a product or service and people will be more apt to join or buy because you have shown social proof that the service works and gave away a couple of tips on how to get the most out of it.

People aren’t looking for a perfect person.  They don’t like perfect.  No one does.  They want to connect with someone who is real and has issues just like they do.

If you are honest, you will have a lot more success and a lot more credibility.  Get caught in a lie and it could ruin your business and your reputation.

So when you sit down to write an article, a blog post, an email or shoot a video remember to use storytelling to your advantage.  Connect with your readers in an emotional way through your own personal experiences, good or bad, funny or sad.

It is the easiest, most compelling way to make your written words stand out in the crowd and get your sales pitch noticed.

Really listen to what others in the industry need help with and are asking.  Then give away advice on how to make things easier, faster, cheaper, better, more productive, etc..  Blog posts, videos, articles, podcasts, and forum posts are all amazing ways to get your helpful content out to the masses.

Add something of value to the community and share what you know but DO NOT give away all your very best secrets for free!

For example, as a blogging expert, you could give away the top reasons on why everyone should have a blog.  Then you could add what a good blog has in it, and perhaps a bit about some of the techie stuff that happens with a blog or the best blogging platform to use.

All very helpful content.  Then you can offer an inexpensive ebook, course or design program that gives them the actual how of all the content you put out.

Give away the why for free and then in order to get the how they have to opt in or pay a fee for it.

Either way, you look like a leader with a lot to offer and they are drawn to you and your knowledge.

This is the secret to looking like a leader even if you have just started in the industry.  Find something that you enjoy and are good at, learn everything you can about it and then give away content that is extremely helpful to others.
