10 Must Follow Rules To Social Networking

When someone joins a Network Marketing or MLM business their starter pack should include rules about online social networking.

Just like at the public pool.   The rules to keep people safe and having fun are posted on a board right at the entrance so everyone can see them.  You know the ones- No running, no horseplay, no spitting, no pushing, no diving and of course no peeing (OK that one is not usually written down- but it’s still an important one).

Here is what the online social marketing rule board looks like…

1. No pitching or selling products- NO SPAM!! No one wants to be sold to.  They aren’t out there looking for another business when what they really want is help making the one they already have work for them.
2. No harassing friends and contacts. If you do this I can guarantee you are going to end up friendless in weeks with no credibility at all.
3. Listen to others. You have 2 ears- 1 mouth for a reason! There are some amazing people out there that are doing what you want to do with your business.  Take the time to really listen to what these leaders have to say.  And when you are having a conversation with someone, pay attention.  Stop thinking about what you want to sell them- think about how you can help them solve their biggest problems and issues.
4. Add value to the site and community. This is HUGE!  Everyone has something worth while to offer others.  If you can’t find something that you can add to better the people on the site, then you need to figure out what makes you unique and valuable.
5. Give credit to others. Always give credit where credit is due.  If you read something that makes a difference in your day or in your business share it with others and give the creator credit.  Nothing makes you look better then when you make others look better.
6. Do not turn your profile into a giant billboard for your company. No one joins an opportunity, they join a person.  Usually a leader that can help them get what they want- in most cases, a successful business.  Putting ads and banners all over your profile or your site screams “Look at me- I have nothing helpful to offer you so I am going to try to sell you anything I can!”.   You’ll get a lot more sign ups by promoting what makes you a leader and a real person.
7. Build relationships. This is what these sites are all about.  If you don’t want to take the time to get to know others then you are in the wrong business.
8. Take a real interest in others. There are real people on the other end of your internet connection.  Take the time to find out what makes them who they are and what they really want.  No one really cares about what you want, they want to know if you can help them get what they want.  Help enough people get what they want and you will get what you want!
9. Be helpful. True leaders are judged by how much value they offer others.  And you are only as valuable as you make yourself.  Constantly strive to learn new things and then offer that value to the community.
10. Be Yourself! If you try to be someone you’re not, people will figure it out (quickly) and when they do, you will lose all credibility.  Being genuine will always win you more points than being a know it all or a fake.  Attracting the right kind of people to you works if you are true to who you are.

Follow these rules and you will have success in this industry.
