We all have to start somewhere right? The online marketing Gurus didn’t just log into an account somewhere and magically get traffic, new reps for their businesses and sales! They were all the student and the newbie once.
Now, I know some of us are further ahead than others when it comes to the business but in most cases, we are all pretty clueless when we joined our MLM.
So where do you start?
What is the secret to making it big online?
I can tell you the information is not hidden in your company’s “Welcome Pack”.
But first, here is what prompted this post.
I got a question today from Richard and thought it deserved a post of it’s own instead of just a few lines in my FAQs. Here is Richard’s question…
Hi, Erica
I saw the question asked by the guy who is in Amway and you advised him to work on branding himself first. I just started new in Amway and also the education system Network 21. I need your help and expertise how to start step by step (consider me MLM for dummies) and grow a successful and profitable business. How to set myself on internet and attract traffic, prospects so I can sponsor or have more customers. I was reading a lot of stuff from magnetic sponsoring and Adam Taha e-book on twitter and blog. I need your help!!!
So first let me say -Hey Richard- Thanks for the question!
You are not alone out there with this one. I get people asking me all the time how they get started branding themselves online.
Step 1- Get a MLM Nerve Center. It will become the home or hub of everything you do in your business. A place where every bit of traffic, every marketing strategy lead and interested person will come to learn more about you and what you offer. Use it to build a sales funnel with autoresponders and affiliate commissions built in for products and services you love to use in your business.
Step 2- Learn how to use your Nerve Center. With the right training, you can have your nerve center at the top of the search engines for free creating endless leads and traffic for you at little to no cost.
Step 3- Get a plan. This is really important! If you have 6 hours a week to dedicate to your business then you need to spend all 6 hours doing things that are going to put money in your pocket in the long run. Busy work is out- being in income producing mode is in! Know what you are going to do before you sit down to work and you will get more done.
Also, know what you are willing to spend marketing your business. If you are broke, then concentrate on free marketing methods. If you have some cash to spend, invest it wisely on traffic generation techniques that will generate leads for you long term first. Then when those are working for you, spend more money on PPC and ezine advertising.
Step 4- Put your plan into action! I guess this ties in with the last but you get my point. You will only reap the rewards of your efforts if you get started today. Not tomorrow, not after you learn a bit more, TODAY!
Step 5- Continue learning. Every time you learn something new, blog about it. Keep learning and sharing with others. Interact with other leaders, ask questions and then spread that around to others. If you give before you get, you will always get more in the end!
Step 6 – Repeat! When you get someone interested in your business and your leadership, show them that they can have the same things you do with some work and the willingness to be the student.
That is why we use MLMMVP. Anyone can duplicate it because it is a system that teaches your team members for you. You spend more time doing the things that make you money and less time teaching the same old things to each member. Showing a new member how to set up a facebook account is not putting money in your pocket but marketing your skills, shooting videos and get your message out to others will. We do the hard work for you and then you reap the rewards.

Each piece is as equally important as the next. They all work together to make up a successful MLM business.
This business is all about getting people to Know, Like and Trust YOU. Partner that with leadership skills you will have a successful business.
I realize that the information in this post is general overview of building an online business. It’s hard to give someone really specific advice when I don’t know you personally yet Richard and even if I did, no one ever does this exactly the same way.
It is impossible!
No 2 businesses are ever alike and that is the way it should be because no 2 people are alike.
- You have your own strengths and weaknesses.
- You have your own goals and challenges.
- You have a personality that is unique to you and you alone.
That is why a Nerve Center is critical. It brands you and what you offer to the people that you attract.
There is only one thing that always stays constant in this business – YOU!
You are the reason people will join.
You are the reason people will buy whatever you are selling.
You are responsible for your own success.
In the end, once I get to know you better, I can recommend a car, the accessories and options that will make it run better, and the roads I know that will get you to your destination the fastest but it’s up to you to get behind the wheel and drive.

Basically decent info and explanations. I would add though, and think it would help in your efforts, if you also stress that one of the biggest necessary ingredients is effort. You have to put in the time and the work, no matter what kind of system or plan you use. Consistency, relevancy, and keeping things fresh can easily overcome a lack of capital, it just takes more time. Too many folks think they can purchase a plan, fire it up, and take it easy while money rolls in. Many end up quitting when they find out later that nope, you still have to work to make money, no matter what you do, and later blame whoever sold them on the plan for their failure.

I completely agree. The all powerful “I will build your business for you” system does not exist. And too many people get fooled into thinking that it does. It’s one of the reasons there are so many that fail. They leave their business success in someone else’s hands and don’t take the responsibility they need to.
